Refreshing the façade of Ottiger Spezialitäten

14.12.2020

After three decades, Ottiger Spezialitäten AG in Ballwil, Lucerne, is refreshing its aluminium façade. The natural "shine" of aluminium is becoming visible again over a large area following professional cleaning. An aluminium façade is timeless and remains modern.

Ottiger Spezialitäten has been producing homemade jams, jellies, pestos and sauces in Ballwil since 1988. Even traditional cheeses are lovingly handmade there. All this has been taking place for 32 years in the specially constructed production hall with anodised aluminium façade. After professional cleaning, it will shine again in new splendour. It is impressive how the thirty-year-old façade has retained its metallic character and now looks as good as new again.

"The effort was definitely worth it. The matt-gloss result on the exterior façade is once again in tune with the quality promise to our customers," says Katja Ottiger, Managing Director of Ottiger Spezialitäten AG, referring to the before-and-after pictures of the production hall in Ballwil.

Interview with Katja Ottiger, Managing Director of Ottiger Spezialitäten AG

"Liebe zum Detail" ist bei Ottiger Spezialitäten spürbar und zeigt sich auch in der Fassadenreinigung vor zwei Jahren. Was war der Auslöser für die professionelle Reinigung?

Our focus is generally on high and consistent product quality achieved through timely production. Now the outer appearance also reflects our quality standards, be it on our website or on the aluminium façade of our production hall. When we invested heavily in our production in 2019, we wanted to have the façade cleaned professionally right away as it was no longer pretty to look at due to the natural weather conditions of the past decades. Now the outer appearance fits the bill again too.

Your company has been in business for roughly 50 years. For over 3 decades your homemade jams, jellies and sauces have been produced in the current building. How much effort have you put into the maintenance of the exterior façade over the years?

Until professional cleaning, the effort was minimal. In certain situations, soiled areas of the anodised aluminium façade were cleaned with water and detergent. The most important thing is that the rinse water is rinsed off completely.

How do you go about cleaning an aluminium façade and what would advice would you give to other companies with the same project?

façades. Several companies offered to refresh the façade and subsequently cleaned a test area. We decided to use a slightly more expensive cleaning service. The end result was decisive: The anodised aluminium façade reappeared in new splendour after the test cleaning and stood out from the other suppliers.

Did you know that the outer shell of your production building was made of anodised aluminium and that it will last for decades with relatively little maintenance?

We knew that the façade was made of anodised aluminium. What we didn't know was how durable and low-cost in terms of maintenance such a product is. This choice of material is always worthwhile in façade construction. It's good to see that the natural "shine" of aluminium has become visible again over a large area following professional cleaning. The façade is timeless and remains modern.

What do you think of the end result of façade cleaning at Ottiger Spezialitäten AG?

The effort was definitely worth it. The matt-gloss result on the exterior façade is once again in tune with the quality promise to our customers.

Where do things go from here and where do you see Ottiger Spezialitäten in 30 years time? In other words, what can your customers expect to see before the next façade refreshment?

We will remain loyal to our location in Central Switzerland in the coming decades. Our specialities will continue to stand out from mass-produced goods, the raw materials for them will always be carefully selected and the production will still be based on traditional recipes. Our product range will hopefully continue to grow, the attention to detail will remain.
