BWB heats Altenrhein village centre
13.02.2023
BWB-Altenrhein cools its anodising plants with water from Lake Constance. Now the heated lake water is used to heat the neighbouring residential quarter. Currently, 55 flats are heated with the waste heat from the anodising plant and their own heat pump. The next step will be to connect the Altenrhein school building to the "Altenrhein Anergie network", as the potential of the project has not yet been exhausted.
The heated lake water flows under the newly designed cycle path on Dorfstrasse into the neighbouring residential area.

An anergy network is a network of pipes for transporting heat at a low temperature level. Smaller temperature differences can thus already be used sustainably.
«For this project, all parties involved had to break new ground and accept a certain risk. Now it has turned into a win-win situation,» says Beat Bosshart, local councillor for the communities of Thal, Altenrhein and Staad.
