Surface treatments for aircraft

The BWB Group offers a wide range of surface treatments consistent with the standards and procedural regulations of major aircraft manufacturers. Several of the Group’s plants possess the required EN 9100 aerospace industry certification and Nadcap process certification. We have many years experience in the aviation industry, and with the relevant processes and approvals, and we are partner with the entire supply chain.

Processes for aluminium parts

• Anodising / electrolytic oxidation (processes with chromic acid CAA / sulphuric acid SAA / tartaric acid TSA)
• Hard anodising
• Chromating (Alodine 1200 yellow, Bonderite M-CR Alumigold, Alodine 1500 transparent and Surtec 650 Cr6-free)
• RoHS-compliant chromating, Alodine 160 yellow and Alodine 400 transparent (CH only)
• Primer varnishing and top coat
• Labelling
• Non-destructive crack test (AITM 6-1001) (RO only)
• Chromating
• Coloration of anodised coating (electrolytic and adsorptive)
• Machining of aluminium parts via the milling centre and profile processing machines (CH only)

• Titanium etching

Galvanic processes for metallic base material

Galvanic coating of the most common base material used in aviation (aluminium, titanium, steel, chromium nickel steel, casting materials, copper/brass) and other metals:

• Cadmium plating
• Nickel plating (galvanic and chemical)
• Silver plating

Varnishing

Special solvent- and/or water-based varnishes:

Base coats, top coats, colour coats, conductive coating, bonding pre-treatment with BR127, erosion protection coating, tank room varnish, bonded coating, anti-slip coating, wear-resistant coating, heat-resistant coating

Additional processdures, pre- and post-transport processes

• Various means of cleaning and degreasing (aqueous -alkaline, organic solvents)
• Blasting processdures (strain hardening, detergent, abrasive, decorative)
• Rivet protection and edge seals for aircraft components and assembly units, implementation of entire subassemblies (RO only)
