The architecture of the apartment block on Schulstrasse is a response to the question of what living space can look like away from the urban centres. It features apartments with large, simple spaces, tall doors and a wooden pergola, all made from robust, durable materials.
During the project, the architects discovered the potential offered by roofing and sheet-metal work for architectural expression. Both the copper gutters and the green-anodised window frames give the building a natural vibrancy – partly also the result of the characteristic trait of the Permagreen surfaces, whose appearance changes depending on the angle they are viewed at and the position of the sun.
The quality of this architectural design was duly recognised in the form of the 'bestarchitects 22 Gold' award. Also of note is that nearly forty apartments were created for a total sum of less than 10 million Swiss francs.
