Electroplating processes are used to protect metal components against wear and corrosion. They can also improve specific material properties, such as electrical conductivity and heat conductivity.
BWB has a specialised, flexible, high-performance electro-plating shop capable of handling small and medium-sized volumes in mechanical engineering and aviation. It creates customised assembly lines for large-scale series and medical-technology orders (ISO 13485).
The electro-plating process gives components a suitable surface finish to optimally serve their intended purpose.
Processes
Improved electrical conductivity
Coatings made from copper and silver can be used to improve electrical conductivity. BWB specialises in functional coatings. In our silver-plating processes, therefore, we refrain from adding any metallic glosses, so as to ensure low electrical resistance: The fewer foreign substances are integrated into electroplated silver coatings, the greater the degree of electrical and heat conductivity.
Protection against wear and corrosion
Electrolytic processes are ideal for protecting aluminium. For other metals, nickel can achieve a high degree of protection against wear and corrosion. Galvanic and chemical nickel-plating produces layers of coating that are non-magnetic, easily solderable, and very hard. They exhibit a hardness of between 500 and 550 HV, which can be further increased as high as 1000 HV through subsequent heat treatment.
Protection against tarnishing, and food safety
A layer of tin coating can protect non-ferrous metals such as copper and brass against oxidation. Tin-plating is also often used to reduce friction in the textile and food industry. Tin is tasteless and poses no risk to health.
