Ematal-coating / hard ematal-coating

Ematal-coated aluminium parts have a sleek, wear-resistant, almost entirely non-porous surface that protects the aluminium.
As is also the case with classic anodising, Ematal-coating involves an anodic oxidation process that produces a protective layer tightly bonded to the aluminium base material.
Enhancing the Ematal-coated/hard-ematal-coated layers with titanium creates technical surfaces that have become indispensable in mechanical engineering and product design due to their excellent properties.

Abrasion Protection

Ematal-coatings are used when friction from mechanical contact (e.g. in the case of slide bearings), from a flowing medium (e.g. valve housing and nozzles for gases or liquids) or from a combination thereof (in pneumatics and hydraulics) needs to be minimised.

Hard-ematal-coating for additional durability

Layer thickness can be tripled in a specially controlled process. The 30-µm-thick hard-ematal coatings protect parts from particularly high degrees of mechanical wear and stress, enabling values of up to 600 HV to be achieved.

Visual properties

The Ematal coatings have an enamelled look, and, depending on the alloying, a colour ranging from pale grey to bronze. Prior to compressing, it is also possible to enhance the coating with a black pigment, creating a very elegant, scratch-proof surface for visible parts.

Chemical resistance

Ematal is extremely resistant to various acids, salts, solvents and lubricants. We'll be glad to test the surface for your specific requirements upon request.

Base-material requirements

Ematal is suitable for components made from various cast-aluminium and wrought alloys. The surface's technical properties depend on the base material. Contact us so we can work with you to find the right alloy and coating solution.
