Plasma & electrochemical polishing

The surfaces of plasma-polished and electrochemically polished components boast maximum purity, lasting corrosion-resistance, and a fine, high-gloss look.

Plasma polishing and electrochemical polishing are electrochemical stripping processes designed to clean, finely deburr, and polish metallic components. In one single step, it can clean welded seams, remove tarnishing, or polish surfaces.

BWB Surface Technology specialises in the electrolytic polishing of gloss parts for the watchmaking industry, and of sterile parts for medical technology (ISO 13485).

Processes

The advantages of plasma electrolytic polishing

Plasma polishing is a further advancement of electrochemical polishing. While the latter is the right process to apply for bulk goods and simple applications, the former is used for more sophisticated requirements in terms of surface quality and purity.

  • cleaning interiors: All surfaces of any shape are cleaned and polished evenly
  • protecting the component: No thermal or mechanical stress
  • reducing roughness: The average surface roughness can be reduced by a factor of 10 to 0.03 µm
  • lasting improvement in corrosion-resistance
  • clean, pure surfaces for medical technology: ISO 13485-certified

Plasma polishing may be used on stainless steel with a carbon content < 1%:

  • chromium steel (Cr alloys)
  • chromium-nickel steel (CrNi alloys)
  • cobalt steel (CoCr alloys)
  • molybdenum steel (CoCrMo alloys)

Bath size: 500 x 500 x 400 mm

The advantages of electrochemical polishing

Electrochemical polishing can achieve similar results to plasma polishing. Small parts can be processed in bulk in drums.

  • short delivery times, whether for individual parts or large series
  • reduced roughness: The average surface roughness can be reduced by a factor of 2 to 0.2 µm
  • lasting improvement in corrosion-resistance
  • clean, pure surfaces for medical technology: ISO 13485-certified

Bath size: 600 x 400 x 600 mm
