Continuity and growth

Our group of companies comprises 7 independent companies at 12 locations.
More than 700 dedicated employees are committed to the highest quality in surface coating every day.
BWB’s success story goes back over three generations:

  • In 1963, Albert Betschart founded the first anodizing plant in Central Switzerland in Stansstad under the name A. Betschart Industrie-Electric.
  • The company quickly established itself as a reliable contract manufacturer for the demanding mechanical engineering SMEs in the region and changed its name to Betschart AG in 1979.

  • In 1989, Thomas Betschart and Ruedi Wunderlin took over the company and built the future headquarters of BWB Surface Technology in Stans-Oberdorf.
  • In 1991, the surface department of FFA Flug- und Fahrzeugwerke in Altenrhein was integrated into the company. BWB Surface Technology was created under the initials of the three owners Betschart, Wunderlin and Bucher, and from then on established itself as a synonym for surface expertise in aviation and mechanical engineering.
  • In 2000, the takeover of Schlierholz Eloxal AG in Niederwangen further strengthened the company’s expertise in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • In 2001, complete production was introduced in Stans-Oberdorf, enabling customers to benefit from comprehensive services in the machining and assembly of precision applications in aviation, mechanical engineering and design.
  • In 2004, the integration of Nehlsen Flugzeug-Galvanik in Dresden marked the first step towards the internationalization of BWB Surface Technology.
  • Further milestones followed in 2005: A specialized plant for Ematal was built in Schlieren with a fully automated system that set new standards in productivity and process reliability. At the same time, the largest fully automated anodizing plant in Switzerland was built in Altenrhein, which brought considerable growth to the Architecture division.
  • In 2008, the integration of BWB-Bürox AG in Büren an der Aare expanded BWB Surface Technology’s range of architectural services.

  • In 2009, Oliver Wunderlin and Andres Betschart took over the company in the third generation.
  • In 2010, B.W.B. Surface Technology S.R.L. was founded in Brașov, Romania, bringing the company to eight locations in three countries.
  • In 2016, Ampho SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Alucol in Neer (Netherlands) and Iten AG in Rudolfstetten joined BWB Surface Technology, significantly expanding the Group’s process portfolio.
  • In 2018, Aloxyd AG in Grosshöchstetten became part of BWB Surface Technology, and in the following years the three Bern-based companies merged to form BWB-Aloxyd AG.
  • In 2024, BWB-Holding AG was renamed BWB AG and the services of the parent company of the group were further expanded. Today, the group of companies employs over 700 people.
