Focus on anodising: workshop with HABA and BWB

In March, BWB-Betschart AG in Oberdorf (NW) welcomed HABA AG – a specialist in the finishing of aluminium plates – to a hands-on workshop held within its production facilities. The day centred on an knowledge exchange dedicated to the anodising of cast aluminium, covering topics ranging from alloy selection and the characteristics of various casting processes to the resulting visual appearances.

HABA’s team brought along their own aluminium cast parts, which were pre-treated, mounted, and anodised directly on site. Particularly noteworthy was the comparison of casting methods: depending on whether vertical or horizontal casting is used, the anodising results can differ. While vertical-cast products can present certain challenges, components produced via horizontal casting are easier to anodise and tend to achieve a more uniform finish. These differences were demonstrated directly at the anodising line and discussed in the group. The workshop also addressed the impact of irregular material structures on the anodising process, along with potential process optimisations to mitigate these effects.

The workshop not only provided an opportunity to delve into technical details but also strengthened the collaborative partnership between HABA and BWB. Through the direct exchange of expertise between specialists from both companies, valuable insights were gained that will benefit shared customers in the future.

We would like to sincerely thank HABA for their visit, their interest, and the open, practice-oriented dialogue. Workshops of this kind are an essential element of our collaboration: they play a key role in driving the continuous development of surface technologies and form the basis for producing high-quality, functionally robust, and visually appealing aluminium surfaces – even when working with demanding cast alloys. This direct transfer of knowledge enables both companies to meet complex customer requirements more efficiently, more consistently, and with greater consideration for material-specific properties in the future.
