Swissloop 2025 - "Marcel Hug" with anodized components from BWB

The latest Hyperloop capsule from the Swissloop team at ETH Zurich bears the name "Marcel Hug" - named after the multiple Paralympics winner, who is known for his speed and technical precision under the nickname "Silver Bullet".

The Hyperloop is a visionary transportation system in which passenger or freight capsules float at very high speeds through almost airless tubes – with the help of magnetic fields. The aim is to create a sustainable, energy-efficient means of transportation as an alternative to air and rail travel.

BWB was able to support the Swissloop project with its surface expertise: We anodized the load-bearing lightweight aluminium components – for a resistant, durable and high-quality surface, as required in the high-performance sector. A robust anodized coating reliably protects the components from corrosion and at the same time gives them a precise technical appearance.

The project was previously supervised by Prof. Dr. Dennis Kochmann, who handed over responsibility to Prof. Dr. Laura De Lorenzis in 2025. The new “Marcel Hug” capsule was ceremoniously presented yesterday, June 24, at the Innovation Park in Dübendorf. We congratulate the Swissloop team on the successful presentation and are delighted to have made a contribution to the future of high-speed transportation with our work.
